Will Champion in the Clos del Serral

From the Olympic Stadium Lluís Companys to our family farm. From decibels and euphoria to peace and tranquility. From the excitement of music to the passion for viticulture. The visit of Will Champion, drummer and second voice of Coldplay, to Raventós i Blanc was a Viva la Vida, a way to share the multiple connections between a good song and a good wine, two pleasures that awaken all our senses.

The return of the British band Coldplay to Barcelona has been a new musical milestone for the city, which has experienced 4 days of concerts between May 24 and 28. An event more than expected, as evidenced by the 200,000 tickets sold, which have allowed to post the sold out sign in each of the recitals to present his latest album Music of the Spheres.

Among this quartet of festival days, the band set one day of rest, Friday 26th. A day to regain strength before they finish giving themselves to their audience during a weekend that many will remember forever. But one of its members, the drummer and second voice of the group, Will Champion, wanted to enjoy it to know our family farm accompanied by Pepe Raventós.

This complete musician and composer is passionate about the world of wine and a member of the London restaurant Noble Rot, where he discovered some of our wines. Thus, he did not hesitate to use his day off to breathe fresh air by visiting the place where some of those he knows and occasionally enjoys are born. His favorites: Mas del Serral and Xarel·lo del Noguer, from Vins Pepe Raventós, La Rosa de Can Sumoi or our De Nit; wine-stars that can never be missing in a good setting.

During the visit, in which the guitarist of the band, Jonny Buckland, apologized for his absence, Champion was able to discover our estate, its vineyards, paying special attention to the Clos del Serral, and the winery. He was fascinated by the animal traction works, the fossil pool and the biodiversity that gathers among trees, birds, vineyards and the lake.

After a brief aperitif at Mas del Serral, Champion and part of the team participated in a tasting of some of our wines such as Xarel·lo del Noguer 2019 and 2021 from Vins Pepe Raventós, Enoteca Manuel Raventós 2001 and a vertical from Mas del Serral (vintages 2007, 2010 and 2011). The musician, despite already knowing most of them, was fascinated by the quality of all of them.

This was the precedent to a relaxed and pleasant meal held in the Manuel Raventós Room. Xató salad, duck with plums and red fruit salad with mascarpone; all paired with Xarel·lo 2022 from Can Sumoi, Bastard Negre 2019 from Vins Pepe Raventós and Textures de Pedra 2018. A good way to end a day in which this talented drummer exchanged musical notes for tasting notes.

A Sunday at Paradise

The drummer was so happy with the visit that he did not hesitate to offer passes for the entire Raventós i Blanc team to the last of the concerts in Barcelona.

The news was a real revolution in all departments and almost the entire staff changed their Sunday afternoon plans to enjoy a unique opportunity.

The big party started with the performances of the opening bands: Ona Mafalda and the Scottish CHVRCHES. Although, without a doubt, the best was yet to come.

With an expectant audience, the four members of Coldplay took to the stage, with Will Champion at the front of the line. Lights, fireworks, balloons. Pure visual magic to welcome the band, who offered a spectacular show with new songs and others as popular as Yellow, Fix You or A Sky full of Stars.

After the concert, part of the team attended the after party. An exclusive pass, reserved for just over 100 people. Food, drinks, music… And, among all this, Chris Martin, whom we were able to meet up close to close a magnificent day. We could never have imagined Something Just Like This.
